Scubaherald has published an informative interview with Lamar Hires, one of the founder of Dive Rite and the author of Dive Rite’s blog on technical diving. Dive Rite was established in 1984 by Lamar Hires and Mark Leonard; two underwater cave explorers and cave diving instructors from North Florida.

Because our company consists of technical divers in many ways that trust is established before the products ever go to market. What I mean is that we design and test our products to our own rigorous standards. We are cave divers, deep ocean divers, wreck divers, ice divers and CCR divers. We are extremely hard on our gear because of the dives we do and because of our concern for safety and effectiveness. I think most tech divers realize this and when they see our gear, they can tell that we do not cut corners. In fact, every piece of Dive Rite gear is made to our own specifications. Occasionally, we may source product from a vendor that a competitor uses, but we do not order anything “off the production line.”
